Hays, KS (May 29)-
Marquette’s B.J. Dauer kept his winning streak intact Friday evening, May 29, winning his fourth IMCA Hobby Stock feature in four races so far this season at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS.
Hometown driver Cody Graham led the first 10 laps of the 15-lap race before Dauer got by to take the lead and hold on to the checkers. Graham would hold on to second, followed by Casey Gilmore, G.W. Fuller, and Luke Pfannenstiel. Heat race winners were Graham and Aaron Honas.
Travis ‘The Terminator’ Sherfick of Wakeeney won his second IMCA Stock Car feature at the 3/8-mile oval. Arnold Williams led the first 6 laps before the caution waved for a stalled car. Williams led the field back to green, but Sherfick got under Williams in turn four coming to the halfway mark and was able to hold off a hard charging Corey Struckhoff to make his way to the winner’s circle. Dustin McClurg finished third, trailed by Adam Balthazor and Terry Cunningham. Ryan Wark, Pat Bedore, and J.R. McCreery were all victorious in heat race action.
Kyle Rohleder led the first 3 laps of the 20-circuit IMCA Modified main event before Gorham’s Jason Schoenberger took charge. Schoenberger would lead the remaining distance for the victory, even with several cautions to keep the field close. Heat race winners Dave Hardesty and Ronnie Hill finished in second and third, while Dylan Sherfick and Chris Vogan rounded out the top five. John Fose and Barry Maupin also won heat races, while Shannon Maughlin took top honors in the B-feature. Hill won the Oldham Sales/PPG Paints cash dash.
Jamie Rice of Minneapolis led all 12 laps to make his way to victory lane in the IMCA Sport Compact feature. A late race caution set up a green-white-checkered finish, but Rice pulled away for the win. Nicole Woods finished second in her new ‘Purple People Eater’, and heat 2 winner Michael Smith finished third. Jamie Rice won the other heat race.
During the intermission, 4 kids bicycles were given away. Two of the bikes were donated by the Walmart Supercenter in Hays, while the speedway donated the other two bikes.
The evening’s race sponsor for the ‘School’s Out for the Summer’ promotion was Teel’s Trucks of Hays.
Racing action returns to RPM Speedway Friday, June 12. The IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Northern Sport Mods, and Sport Compacts will all be in action starting at 7:30. It will be ‘All American Night’ and fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. Also, the first 100 meals purchased in the concession stand will get a free apple pie.
