Three first time winners at RPM Speedway, Friday, September 4th
A pair of Joshes were able to make their way to victory lane for the second time this season, Friday evening, May 21.
Josh 'The Hammer' Hudson of Kensington, won his second IMCA Stock Car feature at the 3/8-mile oval. After winning the second heat, Hudson beat a strong field in the feature race. Terry Cunningham finished second, followed by Adam Balthazor, Perry Misner, and heat one winner Dustin McClurg.
Hometown driver Josh Latka found his way to the winner's circle in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Just like Hudson, Latka won the second heat race, then claimed victory in the main event. Heat one winner Aaron Honas, last week's feature winner Daniel Irwin, Cody Graham and Cody Ghumm rounded out the top five.
Jason Schoenberger of Gorham ran a strong feature race to claim the win in the IMCA Modified A-feature. Schoenberger trailed early leader Danny Morrison and Jesse Richter, then got past Richter, then passed Morrison just before the halfway mark for the lead. Morrison's night came to an end at the halfway mark fo the 20-lap race when he pulled to the infield. Schoenberger then drove away from the field to win by a good straightaway. Corey Lagroon finished second, followed by Jeremy Zorn and heat race winners David Murray and Richter. Morrison won the other heat race, while 'Rapid' Ronnie Hill claimed the win in the B-feature.
Rookie driver Chris Heim of Hoxie won his first IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature at Hays. Heim passed fellow rookie Trenton Kleweno to claim the win. Kleweno held on to second, followed by Josh Rice, Tyler Frye and Mathew Crowell. Heat race winners were Troy robinson and Clayton Wilson.
Allen Rice of Minneapolis won the IMCA Sport Compact main event. Heat one winner Jesse Dunlap finished in the runner-up spot, trailed by Art Herzog, Wayne Jueneman and Russtin Weece. Rice also won the second heat.
It was 'Faster Pastor' Night with serveral area ministers competing in sport compacts. Patrick McGinnis, Director of Ministry, Celebration Community Church, Hays took home the trophy for the fastest lap. The speedway did a 50/50 raffle and was able to give $100 each to the Ellis and Trego County Ministrial Alliance organizations.
Hays Chevrolet was the evening's race sponsor.
Racing action returns to RPM Speedway on Friday evening, June 4. Back in action will be the IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Northern Sport Mods, and the Figure-8's also return. Race time is 7:30pm. It will be Nex-Tech, Nex-Tech Wireless, Golden Belt Telephone/GBTA Communications Night.
